Ghanaian Highlife Music Needs To Be Marketed On The International Front Naf Kassi – Nafisatu Kassim, known in showbiz circles as Naf Kassi, has asserted that it is high time we modified and pushed our highlife music to the world.

When asked about the prominence of highlife music in Ghana , Naf Kassi replied saying; “People love our highlife music but we need to push it more. I think it’s about time we sell highlife outside. People need to take highlife serious out there but it all depends on us here. We need to better our sound quality and we need promotions out there as well.”

The highlife sensational also clarified that there are types of highlife like ‘Borga’ Highlife like that of Daddy Lumba’s and afro-highlife among others so even though our new artistes are not doing highlife the old way, it is still the same Ghanaian highlife.

“Highlife music is our real traditional class of making music. It’s part of Ghana’s culture. Its part of our way of life and most musicians grew up with it. I don’t believe it will fade or die because we the new generation are not showing much interest in it” she said.

Naf Kassi who just won the Highlife Artist and Most Popular Song of the Year at the just ended Wassaman Entertainment & Business Awards 2020 is currently out with her new single tagg, “Odo Pa” which is set to take our highlife to a different level soon

Highlife is a music genre that originated in present-day Ghana early in the 20th century, during its history as a colony of the British Empire. It uses the melodic and main rhythmic structures of traditional Akan music, but is played with Western instruments.

Highlife music was first commercialized by pioneering greats of the genre like E.T. Mensah, Ebo Taylor, The Ramblers International Band and more contemporary ones like Pat Thomas, Amakye Dede, Daddy Lumba and many more. The genre has thrived over the years despite the evolving of new ones with time.
